Can we get a place where authors can collect reader's emails for new hub publications?

Currently we only have social media to manage our audience unless you are a hubpage member.  It would be nice if someone could either add their email into hubpages letting non members follow us.  Or have an email collection system on the main page for authors that wish to generate a newsletter.

They can follow you via RSS, or they can follow you on social media, if you publish your Hubs there regularly. Not a bad idea though.

Yeah I try to publish to some social outlets.  I don't necessarily want to spam my friends that aren't interested though.  It would be great if they could follow us with a click or enterting their email without the hassle of signing up for hubpages.

Actually what you suggest is not a bad idea.  You ought to forward your request to the Hubpages community staff, and see what kind of response they give you, in reference to this idea.  I think that having a separate email account associated with readers, to Hub members, who publish articles here is a big thumbs up. But I think that Rock_NJ, also has given some good advice about the RSS feeds for now.  Sounds like a plan to implement!  Good luck on getting the word out to the staff here, and seeing what they say.

Wow this sounds like a fantastic idea! I don't use Twitter much and emails would be a great way to get to know other writers and their work. Great idea!!!

Often I want to contact a member .  It really would be great if we had this option at Hub Pages.  It could increase interest in our website.

Yes it would be great if non hubbers could just follow us directly.  More traffic for hubpages can't be all that bad right?

Very good idea.  I often wondered why HP make it so difficult for us to communicate privately among ourselves. At the moment, the only way of obtaining an author's email address is by following them and then sending them an email. If they reply bingo, if not, we still don't know their email address. Could it be a fear of mass protest for things we don't like about HP, like for example the so called Related Search ads?

    Just wondering. . .

As for building up a mailing list of readers, that would be great for promotion.
    A win-win for all.

Maybe but I think empowering your users makes sense.  Happy wife happy life.  They should be trying to make us happy. smile

They may not want to do it because then they may not have control over keeping the spamming out. I'm sure the majority of authors won't spam their readers, but I'm thinking there might be a percentage that would.

It also could mean they'd need some extra servers to support all the extra traffic. I'd think it would be fine to ask, but they've probably already considered the idea previously and decided against it for one reason or another.

I had been thinking of making this suggestion in the forum . I think HP will not implement it . Maybe they can add the HOTD hub links and other HP stuff so that this feature will be beneficial to both, author's and HP . Will the author have access to these email addresses is another bone of contention . I have not seen this email subscription feature on any other site like HP(UGC site) .
Please make this suggestion in the forum, that will get you a quicker response from the HP team .

Yeah even if we didn't have access to the email list it would be a good tool.
